KTE operates two Geoprobe 540M limited access rigs. These rigs operate off a portable hydraulic power supply which we bring out on a trailer along with hoses, rods, samplers and other supplies. These rigs are often used for sampling inside buildings (i.e. dry cleaners). The hydraulic power supply remotely powers the limited access rig via high pressure hoses (up to 150 ft away). This means there is no exhaust from the limited access rig, only from the hydraulic power supply located outside.
These rigs use a Geoprobe GH40 hammer and can typically sample up to 40 ft in normally consolidated soils. The rigs utilize detachable arms extending out approximately 2 ft to increase the stability of the rig while hammering. Concrete anchor bolts can also be used to increase the depth capabilities as well as provide reaction for pushing CPT soundings.
The limited access rig weighs approximately 900 lbs and can be lifted relatively easily with a fork lift or crane for certain difficult access sites.
